Safety, quality and reliability in wagon manufacturing
The demand for top quality rail freight cars is high. Now more than ever, innovative solutions are required to increase the efficiency of rail freight transports. Waggonbau Graaff, a subsidiary of VTG Aktiengesellschaft, has been building rail freight cars at its plant in Elze, Lower Saxony, since 1914.
"Railway 40 times safer for transport of dangerous goods"
"The edge the railway has in terms of safety is also clear to see with transports of dangerous goods: while in 2005, a total of 321 road transports of dangerous goods were involved in an accident leading to injury or serious damage to property, in the same period there were only 5 rail accidents involving dangerous goods. In 40 of the road accidents, substances hazardous to man and the environment were released, while with rail transports, there was barely a single case of dangerous substances being released."
